Synopsis
A tyrant king is murdered in a peasant uprising, and when his son enters the village, he is accidentally shoved onto a spike. To save his life, his mother asks a dragon to give half his heart to the new king, swearing that he will follow the old code of honor and not end up like his father. But when Einon turns out as evil as his predecessor, his mentor, Bowen, seeks out the dragon, believing that his heart ruined the prince. But after years, they meet through a strange coincidence and form one of the most unexpected alliances ever made.
Summary
Great special effects, awesome costumes, beautiful settings, outstanding acting....'Dragonheart' contains all of these virtues. The story is really well done, and the cast is nearing all-star. There's not much to say except that this is an amazing movie that everyone should watch -- and that (for the ladies) Lee Oakes is looking good playing young Einon in the beginning of the film.
Notable Quotes
"Do you mind if I sit down? I don't have your energy." -- Bowen
"I always said death should be a release, not a punishment." -- Einon
"So instead of calling me 'Dragon' in your tongue, you'll call me 'Dragon' in another..." -- Draco
"Next time stab more flesh, less cloth." -- Einon
"I'll pierce your heart!" -- Kara
"You already did, once." -- Einon
"Hey, that was good! What did I say? What did I say?!" -- Brother Gilbert
"My dear Lord Felton, only you could keep such a good brain under such a bad hat." -- Einon
"Never have I seen such skill!" -- Gilbert
"Then you must've lived a sheltered life." -- Bowen
Reviews
Stygian Films: "This is really an instant classic."
Apollo Leisure Guide: "It works as a fantasy for kids, and it’s not completely without merit for adults."
Duncan Samarasinghe: "This is an inspiring and old-fashioned medieval fantasy with clearly defined heroes and villains. The dragon is brought to life by amazingly convincing computer effects and the unmistakable voice of Sean Connery. Dennis Quaid is a backable hero and his relationship with Draco borders on being a funny buddy comedy sub-plot."
At-A-Glance Film Reviews: "At last, fantasy buffs can take a break from watching their worn out video tapes of Ladyhawke and Willow and go see this film. It is rare that Hollywood turns out a fantasy film that is actually good, and this one is a beaut."
Rough Cut: "From the special effects team that made Jurassic Park comes Dragon Heart. The folks at Industrial Light and Magic have succeeded in stunning audiences again this summer."
